Behind PETA2.com...our interview with Joel Bartlett

Dude...Dump the Dairy

OK. We all know what peta2.com is...(if you don't...www.peta2.com its the BOMB!!!) and I thought you all might just want to know a little more about the dude who runs the whole cool thing. Here's the interview!

LeahSandler: What kind of stuff do you do for PETA? Do you have to go
into the office every day, or do you work from your home computer?
Joel Bartlett:I work with student activists around the world. Most of my work is
focused on our
www.Peta2.com Street Team program. Students join the
PETA2 street team at
http://www.peta2.com/street.html. Once they sign
up, they just send emails to
StreetTeam@peta.org telling us what they've
done to help animals, and we credit them with points that they can
exchange for t-shirts, messenger bags, and other cool animal rights
gear. I do most of this work in the office.

LS:Do you get e-mails from people who are against PETA very often? What
is the most common anti-PETA statement made?
JB:I have received a number of people who haven't open their hearts and
minds to compassion towards animals. Sometimes people still try to claim
that animals, aside from cats and dogs, don't feel pain. We all know
that that is just silly though - a chicken is just as capable as feeling
pain as a cat or a dog, or your or me. Visit
http://www.peta.org/about/faq.asp for a lot of other frequently asked
questions.

LS:Are you a vollunteer?
JB:I am a full-time paid employee of PETA. I don't make much, but being
paid allows me to focus all of my time and energy into helping animals -
not having to have another job.

LS: Did you have to go through the whole interview/application ordeal to
get your position?
JB:Before I was an employee at PETA I interned:
http://www.peta.org/about/interning.asp. It was so much fun and after
interning I knew I wanted to work for PETA full-time. I applied,
interviewed and was hired.

LS:Is alot of your time devoted to AR? Have you done any demos or
protests lately?
JB:All of my time is devoted to helping animals. When I am not working in
the office I often go to demos locally or in other cities. Most recently
I helped out in our protests against Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey
Circus. Visit
www.Circuses.com for more information.

LS: What's your favorite thing about working for PETA?
JB:Saving animals! I love hearing about how people have gotten involved in
our
www.KFCcruelty.com campaign or have stopped eating animals after
watching
www.MeetYourMeat.com. Join the Peta2 Street Team and you can
start helping animals too!
